Safety With Numbers: How to Get Your Passenger Endorsement

Do you remember when you started driving and the adults in your life would be concerned over you driving with passengers? Do you remember rolling your eyes and wondering why grown-ups were so annoying? Looking back, it makes perfect sense. Because I was responsible for other people’s lives when I drove with passengers! Even just one passenger is a lot of extra responsibility and distraction for the driver.

This extra responsibility, and the distractions that come with it, are why commercial drivers who carry passengers are required to undergo special training to do it!

What you'll need

  • A valid Class A or B CDL
  • Passenger Endorsement ELDT Theory Course
  • Passenger Endorsement ELDT Behind-the-Wheel (BTW) training
  • All appropriate forms and fees to take a written and a skills test at the DMV

BTW training could be provided by your employer, or you may need to get trained through a trucking school.
