Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral fiber that has been used in numerous building materials and vehicle products for decades. Asbestos can be useful due to its strength and ability to resist heat and corrosion. However, dangerous health effects caused by asbestos exposure were later discovered, leading to it becoming one of the most regulated building materials in the United States today.

In this training course we will talk about some of the workplace hazards brought on by exposure to asbestos, as well as the harmful health effects that asbestos exposure can cause. We will also discuss ways to recognize asbestos and limit your exposure to the material.
Course overview
This training module is intended for all general industry employees working in locations that contain or may contain asbestos. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration – or OSHA – uses the term “general industry” to refer to any industry not included in agriculture, construction, or maritime.

OSHA’s general industry standard relating to asbestos health and safety is 29 CFR 1910.1001.
