Course Description

OSHA, or the Occupational Safety & Health Administration, exists to promote the safety and health of America’s working men and women. This is done by setting and enforcing standards; providing training, outreach, and education; establishing partnerships; and encouraging continual improvement in workplace safety and health. These standards address the practices and procedures necessary to disable machinery or equipment, thereby preventing the release of hazardous energy during service and maintenance activities.

Due to the hazardous nature of energy, coming into contact with any energetic equipment can be a dangerous task. This is especially true for workers who are tasked with servicing or maintaining industrial machines and equipment —as the unexpected startup or release of stored energy can result in serious injury or even death. Because of this, knowing how to properly use lockout and tagout devices could mean the difference between life and death for you or your coworkers.

Course overview
In this training course we will talk about where hazardous energy comes from and ways to protect yourself from its effects during service and maintenance operations. We will also detail proper lockout and tagout practices and procedures to help safeguard workers from potentially hazardous energy releases.

The OSHA Standards relating to Lockout / Tagout procedures are 29 CFR 1910.147 and 29 CFR 1910.333.
