The content of this training is intended to assist supervisors in DOT-regulated industries in recognizing the signs and symptoms of alcohol misuse and controlled substance use, and in fulfilling their responsibilities under 49 CFR Part 382.603.

This training does not authorize or certify supervisors to diagnose impairment or drug/alcohol use. It provides general guidance and does not replace your company’s internal policies, procedures, or professional legal counsel.

Participants should refer to the most current version of all applicable DOT regulations, including 49 CFR Parts 40 and 382, as well as internal company policy, when taking action.

Completion of this module satisfies the two-hour training requirement (one hour on alcohol misuse and one hour on controlled substances) for supervisors of CDL drivers, but must be supplemented by company-specific instruction and procedures where applicable.

This training is informational and compliance-oriented, but employer responsibility for reasonable suspicion determinations and actions remains with the company and its designated personnel.
